[opensuse] Today's KDE3 Updates Broke 'kfmclient openProfile filemanagement' what to check?
Guys/Will After updates today from KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_11.0 (or comm or playground) broke some pretty standard stuff. The biggest thing I notice is kfmclient is broken. kfmclient --commands shows everything (dunno if that is like kcmshell --list, but I thought I would try). All of my profiles are there: 11:00 alchemy:~> l ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/profiles total 24 -rw------- 1 david dcr 943 2009-12-19 20:18 dcrFM -rw------- 1 david dcr 962 2010-01-23 00:09 dcr KDE3 File Management -rw------- 1 david dcr 952 2010-04-21 10:35 filemanagement -rw------- 1 david dcr 714 2009-12-19 20:21 webbrowsing I have changed my desktop files to 'konqueror --profile filemanagement' for the time being and it works, but I would really like to find out what broke kfmclient and fix it. What say the experts? Also -- Outstanding KDE3 issues, just in case anybody has had any thoughts or ideas for fixes here: (1) My menu entries and control panel modules are still totally gone :-( (2) All gtk apps appearance is still screwed up. There is still a problem with kcm_gtk, kde3-kcm_gtk and kde3-gtk-qt-engine locks firefox/tbird and worse it no longer builds from .src.rpm? (first one of those I have seen) But, 99.9 percent of the updates are rock-solid. Thank you devs for putting in the extra effort to provide all the updates for KDE3. They are greatly appreciated :p -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. I wonder why 'kfmclient openProfile filemanagement' always loads a different profile on my system than 'konqueror --profile filemanagement' so I changed in to 'konqueror --profile filemanagement' already long ago. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I would say that nothing changed in my KDE3 installation ofter the today's upgrade. My system is 11.2. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

On 11.0, 'kfmclient openProfile filemanagement' worked at 9:00 am before the update, and has been broken every since. I know, I know, that's just purely circumstantial evidence that something broke kfmclient, but that's sufficient for a preponderance standard. Hopefully another quick update will fix it ;p -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. I am also using 11.2 and there is no problem. I guess it might be specific to 11.0. -- Delight thyself also in the Lord and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. I suspect you are right. 11.0 is the bastard child of opensuse right now. I just wish the people building for the community KDE3 repository would quit updating it if no testing is done on the packages before they are backported for 11.0. 11.0 and 11.2 have completely different Qt environments. I suspect that the problems are occurring when things are built for 11.2 and then just 'dumped' from buildservice into the 11.0 repos without consideration on whether they will work with the 11.0 environment. This should not be done at the last moments of 11.0 support. It would be a sad epitaph for 11.0 if one of the devs left it broken just before support was pulled and then just walked away. We all know what happens in that case. Even if one of the devs caused the problem, as soon as the clock ticks past the support date, opensuse with just leave the affected users stranded with the line "11.0 is no longer supported, please (spend 40 hours of configuration and ...) upgrade to a supported release -- WONTFIX" Hopefully 11.0 will be left clean so that we will all have a little while to upgrade as time permits. In my case, I'm glad I now have an upgrade path from 11.0 since the radeon driver has now matured enough to not melt my laptop. (I was stuck to 11.0 due to the fglrx driver, but the radeon driver is very usable now -- not quite as good, but not bad either) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
