[opensuse] nvidia and new kernel
I have NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-180.29-pkg2.run installed. I plan to: 1. Deinstall it 2. Upgrade to yesterdays new security update kernel using yast 3. Reinstall it Is this correct? Or: Use the NVIDIA supplied KMP repository to avoid such issues in the future (linked from the Communities Repositories). Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi That worked fine. In the past I could't find opensuse rpms for the latest nvidia drivers. Will opensuse be packaging them as they appear now? Thanks L -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Could you please point to this repository (URL/link) .... (if this is not the correct one - http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_Package_Repositories#NVIDIA_drivers) ? If this repo is enabled; after doing the kernel update, 1-click install of the nVidia Drivers will not be necessary ? To date, I have always installed the nVidia Drivers (openSUSE 11 & 11.1) using 1-click method. I did; Yast>Software>Software Repositories>Add>Community Repositories>Next>NVIDIA Repository>OK>Finish Then: Online Update (the new kernel was already selected). It selected the nvidia stuff automatically. hth L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I never did that, since the old driver is gone with the old kernel anyway. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Or, Edit "/etc/X11/xorg.conf", find the line: Driver "nvidia" replace with: Driver "nv" and restart X to try. This should leave you with the open version of the driver. Now you can update the kernel, and later, reinstall the nvidia driver running its script. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
