Hello SuSE folk, Don't know why, been that way a long time ! Have several partitions. Some are ext2 some are ext3. Want to convert hdb5 and hdb8 from ext2 to ext3. Command is something like "tune 2fs -j /dev/hdb5 hdb8" ??? Is that correct?, And should those partitions be unmounted when that is done? Thanks for the guidance folks. Bob S.

Almost. The commands are: tune2fs -j /dev/hdb5 tune2fs -j /dev/hdb8 You might also be interested in the "-O dir_index" option. Please refer to the manpage of tune2fs.

It is best to do it on an unmounted partition. If you are going to use modules, don't forget to add "jbd ext3" to the INITRD_MODULES directive in /etc/sysconfig/kernel and run mkinitrd. Dear all, I want to configure antivirus for suse as an email scanner, just like norton antivirus that integrated with outlook, so everytime I receive email with virus attached, the antivirus will scann, repair, or delete the attachment. I use suse 9.0 with ximian mail client I already install antivir commandline scanner (already registered as personal user) and antivir mailgate (already at CD suse professional 9.0) from installation manual (for postfix), I already edit file /etc/postfix/master.cf, at this line: smtp inet n - n - - smptd with this one: #smtp inet n - n - - smptd this will prevent postfix from listening at the smtp port, and enable avgated to do so instead. then I restart postfix. Is there anything should I do then? so that this antivirus aplication could act as antivirus mail scanner. thank you Hangga

We've been using for about three months now at work, and sold it to many of our clients (all on postfix), and so far it has been 100% accurate - I kid you not! It's probably overkill (as far as money goes) if its just for a personal workstation, but if you're serving any windows clients, do give it a try. There's a one month free trail, and it's pretty easy to set up. http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/products.php?p_id=11 http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/buy.php?section1=1 Trying out Clam now, just to see how it goes. -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za

I run Amavis-new as a gate to invoke NOD32 and Kaspersky scanners for my 2500+ e-mail clients, it works like a charm! Amavis really is the way to go as the interface between your SMTP server and the antivirus application. It supports 30-something AV scanners right out of the install file, and can very easily be configured for just about any scanner you can dig up. Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting

Thanks Charles, much appreciated. Done !.... Question, does that actually convert ext2 to ext3, or just create a journaled ext2 partition?

Looked at man tune2fs a couple of times. Did not find a reference to the -O dir_index option. What does that do?

Was already there. Thanks again, Bob S.

A journaled ext2 partition - - - - - which is *exactly* what ext3 is... -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. ext3 is ext2+journaling. The ext3 module is basically just a modified ext2 module to take advantage of jbd (journaling block device). They decided to do it this way so other filesystems can be modified also to take advantage of jbd. All utilities that works with ext2 will work with ext3. One thing I forget to mention, since you converted rather than creating a fresh filesystem, it that you might want to change the max_mount_count with tune2fs to something much higher.
