Then when it starts up again the same thing happens. I can fix it by turning off the graphical login and just using the text one, and starting x manually but this is a pain in the ***.

Edit the file /usr/X11/lib/X11/xdm/Xservers and remove the -quiet

Thanks Philip I did as you said and it worked perfectly, I'm quite happy now. :) I don't know why it suddenly changed, I never edited that file before. Hmm . . . prompt. option

from the line(s) that start the X-Server.
