Latest alsa-packages from packman are broken
Hello! Yesterday packman offered alsa-packages: Update Version: 1.0.12-0.pm.0. These break the sound at least for snd_intel8x0 and via82xx. seq_hw.c:457:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such file or directory So those that feel lucky can try. Those who already updated can revert back using YaST's software-management. I think that zmd-guis do not support any refresh or reverting, just plain install/remove/update. Sven

And I thought that I was losing my marbles and did something stupid on my setup :-( . I suspected that the new upgrades were not kosher but wasn't sure. Thanks for confirming that alsa is busted. Cheers. -- This computer is environment-friendly and is running on OpenSuSE 10.1

The alsa package has just been upgraded and the sound is back on again. All is well. Cheers. -- This computer is environment-friendly and is running on OpenSuSE 10.1

Sven, I experienced the same problem. Using the 10.1 install DVD, I reverted to "alsa-1.0.11-32" and my system was immediately able to recognize my Audigy sound card once more and all is back to normal. Bill

See my earlier message. The alsa package has been upgraded (but still named 1.0.12) and it has fixed the problem- the sound is back to normal. Cheers. -- This computer is environment-friendly and is running on OpenSuSE 10.1
