Nope. SuSEs kernel has the necessary patches. Ciao, Stefan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Using hdparm with my old UDMA66 hd, I have just found out that it was faster with dma disabled, than with udma enabled, about 120Mbyte/sec vs 140Mbyte/sec. Nobody knows what could have been? `hdparm -T' makes use of Linux's cache. So you're mainly measuring cache speed and not disk speed. Better use -t. I know, but with the -t option the speed with Udma66 enabled and disabled were just the same. (11.5 Mbyte/sec). It's strange that the udma gets slower when used with linux cache, isn't it? Yep, it is. Have you repeated the tests several times like hdparm's manual suggests? Ciao, Stefan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Ciao, Stefan
I have repeated it about 20 times, with both -tT. Tazio -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Hm, then I've no idea, why it's slower with DMA enabled. Sorry. Ciao, Stefan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
Ciao Tazio, did you get 120MB/sec by default? Wow, with a EL7.6 I got a sloooooww 11MB/sec with VIA controller. Any hint on how to get more speed from HDs? TIA, Stefano Tazio Ceri wrote:

What about Promise U66 RAID FAST IDE. Can someone shortly tell me what it is and can I use it with SuSE 6.4. Of course, 120Mb/sec with cache enabled. Without that option, the speed was the same as yours. I had a Quantum EL 7.6Gbytes... and it was use to explode once every two months. (That's why they gave me a CX). I hope yours stands safe and sound for a longer time!.-) Tazio Stefano Papini wrote:
