And my last question - will there be any problem with my HD. It's a Maxtor Diamond Max 5Gb (just bought it a few days ago) and I'm
having
to use the EZ-BIOS that comes with it, since my BIOS doesn't support disks > 2Gb. Do you think it'll be okay?
I went thru the same bs. First of all , you should get rid of EZ-BIOS and then proceed from there. EZ-BIOS must go!!! Linux won't work at all with ez-bios.
That 5 gig drive is going to be a problem for win95 running the fat file system. You will have to work around win95 as a stone around your neck. :-)
I have another idea. With NT4.0 why not blow away Win95? It is just a piece of crap OS that serves no purpose than to make your life misearble. I have run the almost identical setup that you are attempting, and finally realized that NT would do everything that Win95 would do for me. So off it went and my computing life has never been better. The more I use FreeBSD and Linux the less I use NT, and don't miss old crash and burn Windlows95 at all. System Commander is a solid suggestion for booting multi-os computers. Althought NT's boot loader or Lilo can be made to work. But if System Commander is within the budget by all means get it. It will save some pain. Just some thoughts. Frank
I would guess, that you could make a 500 meg primary for c:, and put win95 in there. Make a second primary of 2 gig for NT, a third primary of 500meg for quake. That would leave you with 2 gig which you could make as a extended dos partition. Divide the extended dos into a bunch of smaller logical drives, say 1 gig, 950 meg, and 50 meg. Format the 1 gig as fat so it will show up under windows. Then put linux into the 950meg and make the 50meg your linux swap. When you install lilo, tell it you want it in the mbr of the drive, if you want lilo to control booting.
With all those different os'es, you should probably look into System Commander, although lilo can always be made to work.
I must have rebuilt my drives 100 times when I started messing around with multiple operating systems.
NT and Linux don't need ez-bios to see the whole 5 gig.
Good luck, and you will learn to curse the fat filesystem.
