[opensuse] My cat walked on my laptop's keyboard and changed the screen setting

I really didn't want to write $SUBJ, but I cannot figure how to revert to the regular settings. The laptop is running KDE on Linux 12.3, the windows are now slightly bigger than the available screen, maybe 10% - they pan along with the movement of the mouse, up/down, left/right. I expect some sort of BIOS settings, I did a reboot but that changed nothing. I've checked the display settings, nothing there. Any suggestions? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (12.9°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'm afraid I have to AOL. My mum doesn't have a cat, but she does do all sorts of strange things with her system. At present, she has no taskbar at the bottom, her screen icons are all random sizes and I can't resize them, and her screen starts in low resolution then goes up to standard resolution, but moves all the icons into the low-res area so they won't stay where she wants them. So to echo Per, how do I get things back to the default? Cheers, Wol -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

If you're talking KDE Plasma5, remove ~/.config/plasm* whilst not logged in. If the screen settings stay confused, do the same for ~/.local/share/kscreen This should reset the desktop to default. -- Gertjan Lettink, a.k.a. Dave, here you go - https://cloud.jessen.ch/index.php/apps/gallery/s/BCpyW1fzCSlGC1H Our cats are called "Red" and "Blue", you figure out which one is which. They're currently about 5 months old, both female. I'll spare you the rest. The photos are not sorted or filtered for quality/focus/etc. I'll get to that later. Some of my favourites - 8554 (cat on desk) 8556 (cat on desk) 8583 8637 (in tree) 8653 8682 (with mouse) 8683 (with mouse) 8701 (with mouse) 8842 8881 (cat on laptop, the one Dave asked for) At least 3 mice were harm..... uh, consumed. I see no humor. From the "photo" request I expected a screenshot of the ill behavior. Instead I got a never completing tab full of social media BS framed by entirely illegible mousetype controls/menus/buttons. Is is true, not a 42.3 typo, 12.3, meaning using openSUSE 12.3 and thus KDE4? KDE3? Does the laptop have more than one video output connector type and have an external display connected, which also has more than one possible connector type? Care to share /var/log/Xorg.0.log, ~/.xsession-errors, and output from lspci -nnk | grep -A4 VGA so we might see clues to a solvable problem? Does the problem persist if logging in as some other user? If KDE4 on 12.3, can you open configure desktop display configuration show list of available display resolutions (hover the tiny icons to find tooltip) select and apply an appropriate one, and have it survive a session restart? Yes, it has an external VGA socket, but nothing was connected. The issue has been resolved (toggle desktop effects), I guess the logs are no longer interesting?
If KDE4 on 12.3, can you open
configure desktop
display configuration
show list of available display resolutions (hover the tiny icons to find tooltip)
select and apply an appropriate one, and have it survive a session restart?
That was the first thing I tried - 1600x900, and it survived a restart. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (6.6°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Try pressing together left Alt+Super+8 (number eight). In GNOME 3 this is a combination used for magnifying the screen. That sounds like it might be it. At least it gave me some ideas for googling - somewhere I cam along Alt-Shift-F12 (toggle desktop effects?) - that did it. Does the use of something like 'lxrandr' allow you to switch back and forth to other screen sizes and when you go back the problem went away? I really didn't want to write $SUBJ, but I cannot figure how to revert to the regular settings.
The laptop is running KDE on Linux 12.3, the windows are now slightly bigger than the available screen, maybe 10% - they pan along with the movement of the mouse, up/down, left/right. I expect some sort of BIOS settings, I did a reboot but that changed nothing.
I've checked the display settings, nothing there. Any suggestions?

No btrfs here, but restoring from the daily backup could have been an option, except I'm not sure if the laptops do daily backups. :-( -- Per Jessen, Zürich (6.5°C) http://www.cloudsuisse.com/ - your owncloud, hosted in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
