OpenOffice.org save as .gif
Is there some way to save an open office writer file as a .gif? The help mentions that there are some optional graphic filters and advises going into the OOo 1.1.3 setup program and select the modify option. Where might I find this?

Ksnapshot, which captures an image of an open item, can produce a variety of formats, including jpeg, but not gig. Perhaps you could find a converter to gif.

Gimp should be able to do that conversion. -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/

Time ago, I read that gif was proprietary, and thus not supported by open source programs. But I have seen that The Gimp does support it now, so things must have changed. Perhaps somebody can clarify it. For your problem, you may save as png, then use gimp to convert to gif, for example. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Unisys's patent expired, so it is no longer proprietary. Scott -- POPFile, the OpenSource EMail Classifier http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Linux 2.6.11.4-20a-default x86_64

A few methods I can think of: 'print to file', which produces a .ps file, or export to pdf. Open the .ps or the .pdf file with gimp. Set a sufficient resolution in the 'Load PostScript' dialog, e.g. 300 dpi. Set the 'Mode' to 'Indexed', then save as .gif. 'convert', part of ImageMagick, would be another tool to convert the .ps or .pdf to .gif. I'm sure there are more of them. S.H.
