[opensuse] Thunderbird on OpenSuse 11.1
Folks: Something weird has happened with Thunderbird on my 11.1 x86-64 box, version 2.0.0.19 (20081227). When I try and change something in the "Account Settings" window its not saved - For example - Edit > Account Settings > Composition & Addressing > and make any change say uncheck or check "Compose messages in HTML format" nothing happens when I hit the OK button to save the settings. I can click OK all day and the window doesn't close and the settings aren't saved. I've checked and ownership and permissions on the .thunderbird directory and they seem correct. Any clue what's up? Thanks - Mike -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Have you tried running thunderbird from command line to see if you get an errors when clicking on "Save" in TB? This may help in determining what the cause is. -Matt -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

well, I'm curious if you have a lot of rules configured in Thunderbird... it almost looks like some sort of rule corruption causing the issue. Either that or a newly installed extension is causing issues. Just found that the "reply-to-list" extension was causing my TB to crash when opening up opensuse mailing list mails :) -Matt -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks again - I have no rules that I know of and there are only 2 extensions installed - Enigmail 0.95.7 and Mail Redirect 0.7.5. I have disabled both and that didn't fix things. On both of them the Uninstall button is greyed out so I may have t hack a file to remove them. Can I just edit the extensions.rdf file to remove them? Editing the extensions.rdf file only removes it from the extension box, not the actual extension from the system I think... I don't know if that will disable the extension too... I see the latest Thunderbird in the repo as 2.0.0.18, which means you downloaded your version from http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/. Why not download the latest version then and try again? If you installed from repo and my version from software.opensuse.org/search is wrong, then try the latest version. Strangely though, does anyone know what is MozillaThunderbird3? It's a package in there... Thanks - Sorry, maybe I didn't say it - the system has been patched via normal means. Just checked and MozillaThunderbird-2.0.0.19-0.1.2.i586.rpm is available at: http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.1/rpm/i586/ and appears to have been on the site since Jan 8, 2009. Anyway, I just reinstalled it and the problem remains the same - you can't make changes in the "Account Settings" window and then save them. Tried this and frankly never could get it to work - Now on top of this when I boot the system, login and start Thunderbird, it comes up with a blank screen - the only thing that shows up is "Local Folders". If I let it stay up for a long time it locks the screen and I can't start anything, minimize anything & etc - I have to go to an alternate console and kill off Thunderbird. If I kill off Thunderbird with a blank window soon after it starts and start it again I get the regular Thunderbird with all my email. It all seems fairly binary - first start of a Thunderbird comes up with a blank screen after login, if I kill it off and start it again its fine. If I then start Thunderbird again it has the blank screen and if I kill it off and start Thunderbird again its fine. Obviously something evil is being left that has to be cleared out with the next startup of Thunderbird. Again this is a fairly "vanilla" system save the fact that I've added some media apps like VLC media player, SND and associated libraries. I've not upgraded anything "by hand" and the only repositiores that I have added are: http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/11.1/ http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/11.1 http://suse.linuxin.dk/repo/11.1/ This is getting to be nuts - Thanks for all the help! While I have no real idea why the UI is not working for him I don't think that the included extensions are the culprit since everyone has them within the package and it's working for (almost) all others.
Why not download the latest version then and try again? If you installed from repo and my version from software.opensuse.org/search is wrong, then try the latest version.
software.opensuse.org/search definitely has newer versions available, namely 2.0.0.19 (official update) and 2.0.0.21 (mozilla repo).
Strangely though, does anyone know what is MozillaThunderbird3? It's a package in there...
It is what its name says. It's Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0 beta 2 and it's made available for testing and for people wanting to use the latest (even if there is no guarantee that it's absolutely stable right now). It's also packaged so that it can be installed in parallel to the Thunderbird 2.x series. It doesn't even use the same profile location for data safety reasons. Interesting, I always thought that beta releases weren't in the repo, only in the unstable repos or direct download from Mozilla's Website... Never mind... Allen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It isn't in _the_ repo but in mozilla:beta were it belongs (for now). Software search still finds it naturally. Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
