[opensuse] Stranges messages in system log every second
The lines below are being written to the system log on my workstation every second. Another machine also running 12.2 with kernel 3.4.11-2.16-desktop x64, is not getting these messages. Been doing this since Nov 1. I'm not positive, but I suspect that was about when I upgraded the workstation to 12.2, the other machine was upgraded shortly thereafter. 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] CACHE-CONTROL: "max-age=300" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] NT: "roku:ecp" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] NTS: "ssdp:alive" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] LOCATION: "http://192.168.0.104:8060/" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] USN: "uuid:roku:ecp:D0D02F001923" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] Resetting cache timeout: device "roku:ecp:D0D02F001923" maxAge 300 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] CACHE-CONTROL: "max-age=300" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] NT: "upnp:rootdevice" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] NTS: "ssdp:alive" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] LOCATION: "http://192.168.0.104:8060/" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] USN: "uuid:7F248787-B5DF-4C7B-8C9A-00DDEE3B9242::upnp:rootdevice" 01/19/13 12:30:04 PM Alien-SuSE dbus-daemon[960] Resetting cache timeout: device "7F248787-B5DF-4C7B-8C9A-00DDEE3B9242" maxAge 300 Fwiw upnp is not being used anywhere (it is disabled in my router), and the roku is using a static address. When the roku address/port above is input in a browser, an xml file is returned which lists characteristics of the roku: <root xmlns="urn:schemas-upnp-org:device-1-0"> <specVersion> <major>1</major> <minor>0</minor> </specVersion> <device> <deviceType>urn:roku-com:device:player:1-0</deviceType> <friendlyName>Roku Streaming Player</friendlyName> <manufacturer>Roku</manufacturer> <manufacturerURL>http://www.roku.com/</manufacturerURL> <modelDescription>Roku Streaming Player Network Media</modelDescription> <modelName>Roku Streaming Player N1101</modelName> <modelNumber>N1101</modelNumber> <modelURL>http://www.roku.com/</modelURL> <serialNumber>D0D02F001923</serialNumber> <UDN>uuid:7F248787-B5DF-4C7B-8C9A-00DDEE3B9242</UDN> <serviceList> <service> <serviceType>urn:roku-com:service:ecp:1</serviceType> <serviceId>urn:roku-com:serviceId:ecp1-0</serviceId> <controlURL/> <eventSubURL/> <SCPDURL>ecp_SCPD.xml</SCPDURL> </service> </serviceList> </device> </root> Since the log messages are being thrown by the dbus-daemon perhaps I should include this . . . another problem is that most KDE applications can suddenly cease starting, even though open apps still run OK.. So e.g. trying to launch Dolphin in a terminal just hangs, with no messages to the terminal or the logfile. There appears to be exceptions, e.g. Konq will still start. I have speculated that something is breaking the dbus back-end connection, but I know next to nothing about this area. The machine must be rebooted to correct the condition. Run KDE 4.9.5 on both machines, not positive when this first began, may also have been with the upgrade. Ideas what is going on? How to fix? Thanks very much. --dg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Fwiw upnp is not being used anywhere (it is disabled in my router),
That does not mean upnp is not gonna by used by client applications.
and the roku is using a static address.
upnp has no relationship with dynamic or static ip addresses. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hmm, thanks. Your reply moved me to start digging for anything upnp. Sure enough, installed on this machine but not the other is the cagibi package which runs a daemon to monitor upnp devices on the network. And it uses dbus, too. Have no idea how it got installed, though. Anyway, removing that package stopped the flood of log messages; thanks again. --dg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
