[opensuse] how does bugzilla work?
Bug 445320 concerns the intel 845 (and I think many other) Intel graphics. It only allows framebuffer graphics for these chipsets. It was found in 11.1 rc1. I've sent in some extra info and voted for the bug. I'm not sure how bugzilla works but an upgrade to 11.1 would render my 20 node lan useless due to screen flicker. My main concern is when are rc bugs fixed? Is it likely to be fixed before release this week? If not what is the usual timescale? Would it be sensible up upgrade just one box to 11.1, get Yast to setup the install server and wait until the bug gets fixed? cheers, L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Don't upgrade then :-)

I doubt it. I believe the DVD master has already been cut.
If not what is the usual timescale?
I think it varies a lot. Depends on severity, ease of fixing, proper diagnostics etc.

How desperate are you to upgrade to 11.1 ?? Is there something in 11.1 that you just absolutely have to have? /Per -- /Per Jessen, Zürich -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm afraid you will have to wait till 11.2 for that problem to be solved. Maybe they can solve it soon, maybe not. Maybe, if they solve it soon they can provide upgrades somewhere. Maybe not. I don't know whether you could use somehow the old drivers with 11.1 :-? - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Had you read the bug before replying you would know the i845G/GX260 can be working in RC1, and presumably in GM as well. Mine has been working for at least 30 days. The open bug is that SaX2 can't properly handle the 845G. -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Psalm 127:1 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. No, I haven't read it. I'm talking about the issue with several Intel graphic chips that has not been solved nor is known when will be solved. Some have mentioned by spring time. And now that I read it, I'm not sure that bugzilla is about the same problem that Primm describes. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Reread the thread starter's 2nd sentence. It's bug 445320's repro steps described by Lynn. And according to her comment 3 in the bug, she's using the same machines I used to submit that bug. -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." The method posted in bugzilla is a workaround that only allows non accelerated graphics. It gets rid of screen flicker but window redrawing and scrolling are poor. If you have it working properly with the Intel driver could you post your method? It is the same issue. I'm using a Dell Optiplex PIV with i845 graphics. L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The workaround is not about bug 445320 per se. It shows only that the Intel driver can work at all on 845G, but the bug is about SaX2 incompetence with 845G chipsets. Probably there's a different bug about poor X performance if in fact X performance is poor.

I don't know "properly", only that Intel driver can be used at all for KDE3 in 11.1. -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Psalm 127:1 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. Primm, I wouldn't upgrade, but if you are stuck, you can probably rebuild X and work around the issue. I haven't looked for the 11.1 issue, but I did it to solve some 10.x issues. Exactly what is your current problem with 11.1's X as released? Bling-free 2D KDE3 in 11.1 on my GX260 Dell seems just fine. What model display(s) do you use? What refresh rate(s) do they use? What screen resolution(s) are they set to? Since you have 20, can't you try an upgrade to the latest upstream devel version of whichever component bothers you? GX260s have AGP slots. Have you considered using any of them? -- "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up." Ephesians 4:29 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg.
