Odd issues with screen saver/power save
To be able to leave my system on at night, I need to use the power save mode on my flatscreen. That way, it will blank, then turn itself off after 30 minutes. Recently, I have noticed that it doesn't turn itself off anymore. Instead it only does the screen saver. Where should I start looking to see why it is not doing power save? (I don't remember any patches that may have affected this.) thanks eric

Hi, it happened to me if I use some media player (in my case - mplayer) Most of them alter the screen saver in order to play a movie. A basic restart of X solves the problem. If it is not the case, you may take a look in your X86Config file (or with sax2) to see if DPMS is enabled for the monitor. And in KDE's ControlCenter/Power Management. Eric, If you are running 9.2, there is a program called kpowersave you can run to do the power down for you. That is with KDE 3.3.1 running, I might add. Earlier versions of SuSE as well as KDE, I believe, controlled this thru the KDE Control Center power settings. Menu: System>Desktop Applet>kpowersave Center: Power Control regards, Lee -- --- KMail v1.7.1 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 "Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game!"
