Does anyone have any advise with regards to the subject printing environment? I tried with CUPS to setup the E210 without any problems. YAST2 found the printer, however, nothing prints. There are no errors coming from the print programs. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank You, Anthonn

Have you tried printing a test page from YaST2? Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ wielder of vi(m), an ancient, dangerous and powerful magic Don't get lost, show no fear, and you'll be ready for a new frontier -- d.w.

Are you sure the connection to the printer is good? Also, if you are using CUPS, you should still have queue entries in your /etc/printcap. Mine looks like this... hp8: lp: lp: is usually your default printer. Also, try an lpq -a to see if your print jobs are getting stuck in the queue. (also, please just reply to the group). Mine has the following entry: E210:

After I execute "lpq -a" I get the following: no entries

Have you double-checked your configuration with Kups (System>Tools>CUPS Administration tool) or the web version (http:127.0.0.1:631). I have found the web version helpful to at least find out the status of the printed jobs (i.e. aborted, completed). Cool. When I check on completed jobs it shows a bunch of aborted jobs. Then when I try to restart one of these aborted jobs I get the following: Error: client-error-not-possible What else should I look for? This is my first intro to CUPS. Thank You, Anthony
I've just installed squid Version 2.3.STABLE4 from suse, i'm running suse 7.3, after spending one afternoon going throught the documentation and squid.conf. I tried to run squid -z to create the swap directories but: FATAL: none: (2) No such file or directory Squid Cache (Version 2.3.STABLE4-hno.CVS): Terminated abnormally. Then I tried with full debugging (squid -zX): 2002/02/27 21:36:34| file_map_create: creating space for 16384 files 2002/02/27 21:36:34| --> 512 words of 4 bytes each FATAL: none: (2) No such file or directory Squid Cache (Version 2.3.STABLE4-hno.CVS): Terminated abnormally. What file i might be missing ? Do I have to touch files or sth ? Thanks all, Francisco 'Paladino' Costa

I just went through this. Same error. What app are you using to print from. AFAICT, this error means CUPS couldn't understand the app, and didn't have a good error message (my interpretation). I was trying to print from Star Office 5.2. If that is the case, you need to install the printer driver into the app (i.e. /etc/cups/ppd/{your printer driver}). Add that printer, make it the default, and voila, you can print. Everything I print from, however, most of what I've attempted has been through CUPS admin "test page". Anthony

I already had a driver file there.

Sorry, miscommunication. That is the location of the driver file. That is where you would get the printer driver to install into Start Office, Gimp, etc. If it doesn't work from the test, though, I would recommend try to check your config (especially connection) with KUPS. (or the web version). If the test doesn't work, the problem is more basic than the wrong driver for a particular app. How is your printer connected? -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

Everytime the test effort says that the "test page was sent successfully to printer E210"
How is your printer connected?
I'm connected via parallel port. Is it possible that it might be a ghostscript problem??? Anthony

What is the output of lpstat -d -p? Or, as a graphical alternative, http://127.0.0.1:631/printers ? -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

Check out this site http://www.cups.org/cups-help.html which has a lot of good info that might help you get it working. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

Try going into Kups (K>System>Tools>CUPS administration tool [assuming you installed it]) Click on E210 under printers, then choose Instances, and set as default. It should then say E210 (default) under printers on the left. Then, under Instances, hit test. Let us know the results. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871
