How can I perform a COMPLETELY minimal install (I mean even less than the the minimum install that you can select during the CD setup). Thanks Phil. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hi, This is a funny question to answer. The problem with a "minimal" install, is that there are so many module dependencies. I.e., one rpm file is linked to another, and before you know it, you have loads of packages installed. But, to answer your question, a minimal install would probably be the following: 1. no X display (so you can remove (more or less) anything that begins with X 2. you will not need anything from the K Desktop (so all that can go) 3. If you are not on a network, then programs such as "ident" can also go. After I had gone through each group under the SuSE installation, I think that I had managed to whittle my final installation down to 87 packages. I wonder how much you can do with aaa_base and nothing else. (Haven't tried it.) Paul

Just go through each series in YaST individually and cut everything out that you don't need. Which packages you decide you need depends entirely upon what you want to do with the machine afterwards...
