the gimp group hasn't been helpfull sofar so maybe one of you can help me out: in photoshop there is a function to generate automatically a contactsheet from a map containing jpeg, tiff or whatever. is such possible within gimp? my idea is to autogenerate thumbnails of images in a map so they can be put on a website. piet
pixieplus does this and more, see http://apps.kde.com/na/2/info/vid/5524?sid=f9e0449778dbb815e47bd72aa5b039e9 or on sourceforge or freshmeat. It's a great tool. HTH Matt T. On Monday 01 April 2002 04:05, PR wrote:

This is excellent software. Well done to the developers ! Compupic is no longer required on my system! Brian Marr On Tuesday 02 April 2002 03:40, you wrote:

pixieplus appears to be just the application I have been looking for. I have downloaded the archive, but I haven't been able to locate any information about how to compile / install the program. Can some kind person here offer a newbie some step-by-step guidance on how to do this. TIA Dave On Tue, 2002-04-02 at 04:10, Matt T. wrote:

It does, but PixiePlus does it better in various ways. One really nice thing it does is to provide thumbnail views of your image, then next to the thumbnails a bigger view of whichever one you highlight, then the ability to view them sequentially at 1:1 or at full screen size by single mouse click or working with the arrow keys. I really rate it, and would advise anyone who wants to manage a bunch of images to give it a try. I followed links at www.mosfet.org to find a SuSE-specific rpm for 7.3, and so didn't have to compile it. I assume that link is still around ... Best Fergus

OK. I found the info I was looking for on the pixieplus download page (obvious place to look, duh!!!). The link Fergus refers to is on the same page: http://www.mosfet.org/pixie/download.html but this is for the older (stable) version 0.2.1. The latest Alpha Version 0.3pre1 has (according to the author) been completely rewritten. Dave

You can find it at in the suse kde directories as well, part of the path to it is: supplementary/KDE/update_for_7.3/applications Or when you've apt operational just use: apt-get install pixieplus-kde -- Richard Bos For those without home the journey is endless

You would probably be better served by downloading the SuSE rpm for install. for KDE2 (one line): ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_7.3/appl ications/.link/pixieplus-kde.rpm -- Pat Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 Registered at: http://counter.li.org

Thanks Pat. After I failed miserably in my attempts to compile the Alpha Version 0.3pre1, I downloaded and installed the SuSE rpm of version 0.2.1, which is good but the new version looks even better. Is there any specific reason why you recommend the older version, or do you think it's safer for newbies like me to leave pre-release stuff alone? Regards, Dave

Are you using KDE3?? The V 0.3pre1 is specifically for KDE3. AND, if you were having difficulties, the rpm is much easier, expecially since there is one compiled for SuSE 7.3 or ??. Anyway, you should have matched the version you have installed. The 0.3pre1 is developer, not stable issue. It is for tryout and debugging. -- Pat Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 Registered at: http://counter.li.org
