I think /boot must be ext2. The thing I am not sure about is how to create the resier partitions manually, before copying the contents of the old hard disk on to the new one. Is it possible from the rescue disk? Thanks Rich

It should work with any fs as it's just working with files. However there is a problems with either the root/boot fs being reiser. I can't remember which it is, but one of them must be ext2 to allow the system to boot...
