[SuSE Linux] StarOffice Registration Failure: 29 days to D-Day!!
I have finally installed StarOffice (and SuSE 6.0) successfully. BUT, the Star Office registration process fails (I used the automatic internet registration). It pops up an error saying that the registration failed, and to try manual registration. I do however receive a screen showing my assigned customer ID and registration key!!!! Nonetheless, when I try to enter these, the regsitration will not accept them. Has anyone had this problem??? StarDivision is ignoring my emails and I cannot find a contact phone numer for StarDivision anywhere. So far, my opinion of StarDivision is right up there with that other Starr. Their licensing/media key/customer number/decrypt key really sucks. Makes microsoft look like good guys! Well, its free right? Not really, since I'll probably have to end up paying for a copy just to get it registered properly! -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

I installed SO without a problem when I was running RH 5.2. This is my first attempt while running SuSE 6.0, and it failed with a segmentation fault almost immediately. No .. thankfully it installed without a hiccup. Only the registration seems to fail. I have a lot of memory though and that might save me. Very strange. I guess I will go about deleting the damn install and trying again as someone else suggested. Does anyone have a clue as to what files I need to delete? Jerry Lynn Kreps wrote:

Staroffice 5.0 installed and registered just fine for me, but I have a question. There is a new filter patch for Staroffice 5.0 and I was wondering if anyone had an ftp address for the patch..or does one have to download the new patched version ..all 70some megs of it?

I opted for buying the cd version of it instead of downloading it. The update occurs rather well on SuSE 6 systems; in fact, when you do the patch it finds the earlier install, alerts you to the glibc requirement, says it cannot find the glibc libs, but you are using SuSE 6 so all should be fine. I always thought that anyways!! I knew that if I used SuSE 6 all would be well :) -- Michael E. The stardivison protection scheme is boring, but they must protect themselves, no? The main problem is that one MUST give the good visit card in the very beginning of the installation. I had to write my name (case included), first name and e-mail, and these can't be changed before registering (must delete and reinstall if mistyped). Done that, all goes right for me, the numbers are the same for linux and windows, it's very handy to have the same application on the two systems. I also have the "./setup:window manager didn't set icon sizes - using default message", but it starts without problem. However, it seems staroffice needs a great amount of real memory : I have a 166 pentium with 32Mo ram and when loading netscape after star I had a crash (hard crash, I think swap crash), although the cache was not full, far from. (100Mo cache). -- Linux hp-41 APTEP SF <A HREF="http://perso.club-internet.fr/jdanield</A">http://perso.club-internet.fr/jdanield</A> jdanield@club-internet.fr jdanield@usa.net -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
