Trying to install 8.0 on a friend's computer to show them the wonders of SuSE-Linux but can't access their account with AOL. I got past their winmodem, a Conexant with the driver available from Marc Boucher and some other little glitches like missing log files by just creating them. Authentication seems still to fail. I checked the SuSE support base and there is an article saying that AOL cannot be accessed through linux due to an AOL proprietary authentication program, neither PAP nor CHAP. Says it affects "all versions" of SuSE. Is this article still current and true? Is there no "workaround" such as something that would fool AOL into thinking it was being accessed by a M$ computer? Bummer. Thanks for any assistance. Richard

Found this link on another list, don't know if it works or not, but at least it is a place to start. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/textbox/instantaol.12-03-01.tar.gz?downlo... George Richard wrote:

iAOL does work, but not for the capacity of dialup. I have been working on getting that client fully portable between linux distro's since I ripped it off a gateway device over 2 years ago. The program calls a program called uced for its dialup method, It comes in that tar.gz but no luck getting it to work. Another problem it faces is Gnome upgrades stalls it bad, I had to modify a few things from Gnome 1.2 to 1.4 and have not the time or bandwidth to test it on SuSE 8.1 with Gnome2. The readme has enough info you can get started on your own, but if you need help, m e-mail is always open. Rob Textbox Networks On Wed, 2002-12-04 at 08:53, George Curran wrote:
