Successfully updated via "smart"
Hey everyone, I don't know exactly what version I upgaded to, but I was able to upgrade my packages to the latest version at: http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source... via smart. What I did was I added a Yast2 repository to smart, with the above URL, and I updated it. It took about 4 hours, and downloaded about a gig of packages, but it worked. One thing interesting to note is that it didn't work to upgrade with Yum, but Smart was "smart" enough to figure out that it needed to downgrade a package or two (pilot link) to meet all dependencies. From what I can tell, quite a few bugs have been fixed, however it broke my WPA connectivity with knetworkmanager. It wasn't able to connect any more, so I was able to remove the packages and reinstall NetworkManager and knetworkmanager, wpa_supplicant and friends from again, and all worked fine and dandy. So as far as I can tell so far, it is possible to upgrade via Smart :) Thanks Pascal Bleser for the tip on trying out smart. It's my new favorite package manager... it does everything right that I had always griped about yum. This is probably a big big dirty hack? If I'm doing something incredibly wrong, someone please advise me. Tim

Ok, I figured out what was wrong with knetwork manager and connecting to my wireless network. I had to delete the knetworkmanagerrc file in ~/.kde/share/config/, and open up my kwallet and delete the network password. That allowed me to get to the "connect options" dialog when trying to connect again. Before, I was able to select "Automatic" for the WPA protocol, and it would automatically select the right one. Now, when I select "Automatic", it

Interestingly enough, when trying to connect to my wireless in knetwork manager, the only other option available to me was "TKIP", the correct option. But, selecting Automatic would try for CCMP. This appears to be a problem with the NetworkManager package, and not KNetworkManager, because if this symptom doesn't occur unless if I upgrade the NetworkManager package. To remedy the problem, I select TKIP for the WPA protocol when trying to connect, and all works fine and dandy. Does this make sense? Is this a bug? Any input would be appreciated, thanks, Tim

Could you please be more specific? You upgraded from which version to which version? Thanks, Sander

I had some new found trouble with the NetworkManager after the upgrade, and did some debugging of it last night. I found the new problem is in the NetworkManager package. I filed a detailed report here https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=166913 Thank you! :) Tim
