Basically, the question is, how do I go about upgrading my SuSE 8.1 system from glibc-2.2.5 to glibc-2.3.x? I realize that some of my current programs may not work with 2.3.x but I'm interested in finding out what has to be done anyway. I may not do it, but I'd like to know. Thanks, Rick

Upgrade the necessary toolchain (gcc, binutils, ...) to the needed versions, compile glibc 2.3.x and recompile all static binaries. Be aware that rpm will stop working and you cannot recover the system with old RPMs if something goes wrong until everything is working again. My advice: If you ask such a question on this list, don't do it, upgrade to SuSE Linux 8.2.
