For the past 2 days I have been receiving msgs from Mailer-Daemon @flpv18.prodigy.net advising me that my msgs addressed to aa6vn@pacbell.net are undeliverable because they involved "too many hops". All my msgs (there have been 7 'returns') are those I posted to THIS (SuSE Help) forum either as a first posting (DMA Nightmare ....) or responses to that thread, or responses in the threads "DMR-backup/restore to be added to yast+recovery" and "Update-o-matic". I do not know a 'aa6vn@pacbell.net" and have never addressed any mail to that address. All the msgs which I have posted to this forum have been correctly received in this forum (SuSE Help) -- but they are also returned to me by the above Mailer-Daemon as undeliverable. My conclusion is that it is something at this forum's (SuSE Help) mailer's end which is causing the messages to be forwarded to this mysterious pacbell.net address. My posts to other people/forums do not suffer this problem. Is anybody else having mail posted to this forum returned to them? And if so where are they being sent to be then returned? Cheers. -- Ignorance can be corrected. Stupidity is permanent.

Sounds like someone is putting your email address as the return address for spam. Unfortunately I get this but unable to change my email address, maybe you could look at doing this then it will stop. HTH

This is not a wrong setting on the mailing list or server, it is a problem with the person who subscribed to this list with the aa6vn@pacbell.net address. I have requested more than once that the list_owner remove the address but it has not helped. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

The responsible party is subscribed as "Jack Reilly <aa6vn@pacbell.net>" I sent him an e-mail about this a few weeks ago, which bounced ;-) but the bounces stopped after that. Now they've started again. I'm cc'ing Jack again with this message. Hopefully he'll get it sorted out again. Carl

Thanks Carl and Ken for this information. I hope this gets resolved ASAP. Whether this is related or not I don't know but it sure is a coincidence..... My wife (and I too) has been reading a forum for about a month now and suddenly 2 days ago my IP address was put on its banned list because the site has been receiving a lot of spam. The ban doesn't specifically mention that the spam is from my address, and the general notice on the site states that if I was wrongly put into the banned list to contact its owner - which I did tonight. Cheers. -- All answers questioned here.

When the server sends an email out to the list, it puts your return address on that email. And if any of the emails sent by the server bounce, you will get that email bounce in your inbox. One thing this prevents is a 'vacation reponder' loop. I sent a notice to suse-linux-e-owner yesterday asking that this user be removed. It's been too long that his/her emails have been bouncing.
