Hi fellow SuSERs, I'm still having trouble playing sound on my system. I have downloaded and installed the latest alsa.rpm and alsa.driver.rpm from SuSE. I have run alsaconf and everything seems ok...test sound works. I have checked that the cdrom and sound-cgip on my motherboard have direct connection. I seem to have all the relevant xmms plugins. When I run xmms it plays the actual file but no sound comes forth. I have looked in alsamixer and gamixer but as far as I can tell sound is on. On my previous redhat system I would run amixer and un-mute and then I would get sound. But amixer is not on SuSE. Anyway..I am at roads end...what am I missing?? Thomas

i had this exact same problem myself a while ago. do you have any other sound-related hardware installed? webcam? in my case, xmms thought the microphone in my webcam was the proper speaker and was trying to play my stuff through that. try lsmod to see if any of the snd-* modules are loaded. in my case, they weren't but "sound" was. i don't remember exactly what i did, but rmmod sound comes to mind. xiaolei
