I'm try to build and rebuild some packages but I'm grinding to a halt at the following after hitting rpmbuild, etc: checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.2... no *** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found *** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to glib-config. configure: error: *** GLIB >= 1.2.2 not installed - please install first *** error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.36453 (%build) The package concerned is xmms-1.2.8-26.src.rpm off the SuSE 9.0 install disks, though I'm getting the same result with non-SuSE stuff. I've got all the devel packages installed for glib and glib2, etc. My version of glib is glib-1.2.10-482 off the disks. Anyone know what to do? TIA :) Fish

Are you sure? What is the output of: rpm -ql glib-devel Charles -- "Whip me. Beat me. Make me maintain AIX." (By Stephan Zielinski)

Well, nothing in life is sure except taxes and being unable to find a decent cup of tea outside England etc., but I checked through things in Yast and came up fully loaded so far as I could tell. This is the output of rpm -ql glib-devel: paradis: # rpm -ql glib-devel /opt/gnome/bin/glib-config /opt/gnome/include/glib-1.2 /opt/gnome/include/glib-1.2/glib.h /opt/gnome/include/glib-1.2/gmodule.h /opt/gnome/include/glibconfig.h /opt/gnome/info/glib.info.gz /opt/gnome/lib/glib /opt/gnome/lib/glib/include /opt/gnome/lib/glib/include/glibconfig.h /opt/gnome/lib/libglib.a /opt/gnome/lib/libglib.la /opt/gnome/lib/libglib.so /opt/gnome/lib/libgmodule.a /opt/gnome/lib/libgmodule.la /opt/gnome/lib/libgmodule.so /opt/gnome/lib/libgthread.a /opt/gnome/lib/libgthread.la /opt/gnome/lib/libgthread.so /opt/gnome/lib/pkgconfig/glib.pc /opt/gnome/lib/pkgconfig/gmodule.pc /opt/gnome/lib/pkgconfig/gthread.pc /opt/gnome/man/man1/glib-config.1.gz /opt/gnome/share/aclocal/glib.m4 :) Fish

/opt/gnome/bin/glib-config
Symlink /opt/gnome/bin/glib-config to /usr/bin/glib-config and /opt/gnome/bin/gtk-config to /usr/bin/gtk-config, and all your compilation problems will be solved. While you are at it, if you have gnome1, you might want to symlink /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-confg to /usr/bin/gnome-config. Charles -- Linux is obsolete (Andrew Tanenbaum)

Adding /opt/gnome/bin to the path might be better. -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogical, with just a little bit more effort?" -- A. P. J.

Thanks, that did it. Actually, I was trying to recompile xmms because it wasn't drawing properly under ulb-gnome using the default smooth eyecandy theme (nor was grip), though it draws fine under other themes. My mistake, as I thought that recompiling it against what I have on my machine might help. Need to investigate smooth eyecandy then. My setup I expect. :) Fish

If you can let me know anything you find, I'd be really interested, cos xmms displays fine for me using s-ec... Could it be the xmms theme you use that's causing it? I'd be very surprised if it wasn't my setup. I use apt-get and have updated so many files over the past three months that things are far removed from the basic 9.0 install. I'll check it out soon and post any details that might be helpful. :) Fish

Try editing the .spec file, find the ./configure line and add GLIB_CONFIG=/opt/gnome/bin/glib-config -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 9.0).
