Hi all I stumbled across this website: http://pctech101.com/products.php?cat=221 selling Suse 9.3 professional for just 12 bucks. Is this legal? If so, how come they can sell 9.3 at those prices? Regards, Dan

Yes, it's legal. They are selling burnt copies (CDR) without documentation. You won't get from them what you would get from buying directly from SuSE or a retail outlet like amazon. Stay safe, and put your money where it's deserved by buying directly from SuSE (novell) or a retail outlet like amazon. -- Warm regards, Jordan Michaels Vivio Technologies http://www.viviotech.net/ jordan@viviotech.net

There's no problem with them copying the GPL stuff. However, I believe there's some non-GPL things, which might not be "copyable". Another issue, is copyrights of the SuSE name etc. Even if all the software on the disks is GPL, the SuSE name isn't.

If you want the support and want to do the right thing, support SuSE for taking the time out to do all the work getting all software together on two DVDs and five CDS. Is it legal? Is it right? Do what you think is right. Somebody has to work and pay their bills and feed their baby.
You want it cheap? Download it from the FTP image. Want it for a lower price than 99.95. Shop around or wait for the nect update and get on the list for the update edition for $69.95.

This sounds tempting just to get replacement DVDs. I've had trouble reading from the originals and the thought of getting help from Novell sounds daunting.

I'm also having problems reading from my Suse 9.2 Professional DVD :-( I'm not looking forward to going through all the CD's for kdeutils3-extra-3.3.0-5.i586.rpm. How do you go about getting a replacement DVD? BTW I clearly remember ready in the licence that coping is permitted. Unfortunately I can't remember where this licence is located. -- Robert "roach" Spencer Pietermaritzburg South Africa
