When it rains it pours. I downloaded and installed all the KDE rpm's and qt 2.3.0-11 from Suse's ftp site. I installed them using YaST. However, when I do startx, all I get is KDE version 1.2 how do i reconfigure startx to use the newly installed KDE2.1.1 thanx for your help. mike
To start kde2 not as the default wm, use "startx kde2". To make kde2 the startx default, go into YaST-system administration-configure susewm, where you may set any of the installed wm's as the default. --Kevin On Sat, 7 Apr 2001, mhf wrote:

Kevin, thanks for your help. I tried both of your suggestions. 1. Tried startx kde2 from root: This was very close, but no cigar. A different desktop from that of KDE 1.2 loaded but there was no application bar and no desktop icons. I couldn't get anything else to load. 2. I started YaST1 - System Administration - configure susewm. I set KDE 2 as the default windows manager. Upon startx, the Xserver loads, I get a red splash screen that stays up for approx. 2 seconds and then X fails. I tried to find a complete log of the event, but couldn't find it in any of the /var/log files. So, I did my best with copy and paste of text from bash shell. Ben, My bad. I forgot to state that I am using Suse 7.0. Will this 7.1 file work even though I am using 7.0? I looked in the "update_for_7.0" directory and there was a similar file: libmng-0.9.3-9.rpm. Should I be using this one instead of the one you stated below? Thank you for your help. I doubt it. You can cd .. into the previous directory and into the 7.0 directory and find the same structure and files. You should be all good. :) * mhf (michael.flug@snet.net) [010408 12:19]: =>Ben, => =>My bad. I forgot to state that I am using Suse 7.0.
