Hi, I've been pulling my hair out trying to get my /var/log/messages to rotate. Extended research with logrotate has not given me the info I need. I've read the files that need to go into logrotate.d, but I don't know where to get them or what the content is. I've tried restarting syslod.d. I've tried putting a script in the crontabs, I've tried tweaking the logroate.conf, but nothing works. Can someone help me? Many thanks in advance. Paula IT Analyst III TSRI La Jolla, CA 92037

A while back, I installed Munin for system monitoring (mostly just out of curiosity about its capabilities). Some time later, I noticed my logs were not rotating. What I eventually figured out was that the logrotate configuration file added by Munin had an error (referred to some non-existent file or directory, if I recall). For some reason, this made logrotate refuse to rotate any logs at all! Unfortunately, I cannot now remember where I found the diagnostic from logrotate that led me to the bad config, but I'd suggest you look around in your log files. Randall Schulz
