Most 'smartdisks' come with software for 95/98/NT, although there is a website which has linux drivers... The whole system works quite well, though the disk will set you back a hefty £50-£60. I think www.smartdisk.com is the right address. Hope this helps,

Andrew ----- Original Message ----- From: Chris Large <clarge@macn.bc.ca> To: <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: 03 December 2000 9:00 Subject: [SLE] Digtal camera
> I have just bought a Kodak DC3400 digtal camera. I just checked out the specs and it looks like your camera uses CompactFlash memory, just like my DC200. This may not be much help, since I have only used it under Windows, but there are options. Check out http://www.sandisk.com. They invented and make this type of memory. They offer USB and parallel port versions of media adapters, that allow you to access the media independently of the camera. My personal preference has been the PCMCIA adapter, which works great. I can plug the media directly into a laptop, and with the addition of a PCMCIA adapter in my PC (about $40 from Ebay) I can plug it straight into there as well. This type of media spoofs being a hard drive in the Windows world, so you simply use your favourite file manager to drag and drop the files from the media to the local hard drive. With the right drivers, I would imagine it is simply a matter of mounting the media to a folder in your filesystem, just like any other type of removable media. Remember though, only ever format the media in the camera. I think the speeds go as follows, from slowest to fastest: Serial->Parallel->PCMCIA->USB I may be wrong about the last two, but either of them is a vastly superior choice to the first two. By the way, Ebay is also a good place to pick up cheap media. Hope this offered at least a modicum of help, Stuart.

-----Original Message----- From: suse-linux-e-return-41863-stuart=yorkshirepudding.com@lists.suse.com [mailto:suse-linux-e-return-41863-stuart=yorkshirepudding.com@lists.suse .com]On Behalf Of Chris Large Sent: Sunday, December 03, 2000 3:01 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] Digtal camera
I have just bought a Kodak DC3400 digtal camera. Try using gPhoto (on the CD, at least in 6.4). You just tell it what port to look at, and what camera to find there. See man gphoto HTH -- This Email is 100% Virus Free! How do I know? This is absolutely fantastic! I had been looking for such program for a while now. The only reason why I booted into W$ was to get my digital photos (Sony DCR-PC100E), now I am W$ free! Maybe you should create a new directory for every 10 seconds, within a directory per minute, those within one per hour and those within one per day. i.e. hash sort the pictures using the directory hierarchy. /image_root/year/month/day/hour/minute/sec_10/image_num -- /"\ Bernd Felsche - Innovative Reckoning, Perth, Western Australia \ / ASCII ribbon campaign | I'm a .signature virus! | X against HTML mail | Copy me into your ~/.signature| / \ and postings | to help me spread! |
