[SLE] demand dialling using pppd and wvdial
i was able to "successfully" implement demand dialling using pppd and wvdial (not wvdial.dod). in any case, can anybody give me some pointers on how to: 1. stop wvdial from autodialling once the connection is dropped by pppd. i looked through the wvdial files and i can't find the configuration for the redial parameters. 2. make pppd active (not killed) when the connection is dropped. i'm not sure if it's an "option" that i just need to adjust (holdoff, idle, icp_echo_interval, icp_echo_failure?) or some other parameter. 3. make wvdial use the ppp interface that pppd is using. what's happening is that when i run the command "pppd /dev/modem . . . . blah . . . connect wvdial", pppd uses ppp0 and when wvdial comes in, it uses ppp1. i end up with 2 ppp interfaces and i noticed that there is a lag in the throughput. it's not a perfect setup that i have. i've used wvdial.dod but i get an error like "parameter "\" not recognized". i've also tried diald but after i connect (using wvdial and not a chat script, i get disconnected after 0.4 minutes). i've tried all of the above and so far the pppd demand dialling with wvdial is the only one that let's me connect to the internet. any help is greatly appreciated. mac -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

IMHO you would be better off if you tried to solve this than trying to get your solution running. You are using programs in a way they are not meant to cooperate wich can lead to all sorts of problems / annoyances.
