I have tried numerous times to configure my Hauppauge PVR 350 with no success. The card is detected when I scan for channels, it says no channels found. I know the card is working fine because I dual boot with Windows and it works fine. I had the same problem in SuSE 9.3 and SuSE 10.0. Currently, I'm running SuSE 10.0 eval from a fresh install. I'm in Canada and I beleive we use NTSC here just like USA.The closest options available when scanning for channels in YAST is NTSC us-cable and I get the following: v4l2: open /dev/video0: No such file or directory v4l: open /dev/video0: No such file or directory Number of TV Stations Found: 0 Anyone knows why it's not working or how to configure it? Perhaps it's a Canada specific issue? -- Hani

You need to get the drivers from http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Main_Page SUSE has an early release of this package on the DVD for 9.3 and that seemed to work for me. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

SuSE appears to have automatically detected and installed WinTV PVR 350 and ivtv as it appears in YAST: WinTV PVR 350 Configured as TV card number 0 Driver ivtv But in YAST, when I click on tuner where it autodetected the card, I get a message: "no tuner available for the selected card" -- Hani

You can not configure that card with yast. Yast does not know how to install the firmware, you have to do that your self. All yast sees is the pci info from the bus. You have to copy the firmware to /lib/firmware/ivtv-fw-dec.bin and /lib/firmware/ivtv-fw-enc.bin (one for decodeing one for encodeing). You get these out of the windows drivers with a utility which you can find here: http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Firmware -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

I followed the instructions on the above link and there was no change. Although the instructions said to copy the firmware into /lib/modules, that did not make any difference. However, I noticed that you said to copy the firmware to /lib/firmware, so I did and there was some progress. This time after clicking scan the channels, I get the following: ioctl: VIDIOC_QUERYMENU(id=134217728;index=1;name="44.1 kHz";reserved=88): Invalid argument ioctl: VIDIOC_QUERYMENU(id=134217731;index=1;name="Stereo";reserved=88): Invalid argument ioctl: VIDIOC_QUERYMENU(id=134217733;index=1;name="None";reserved=88): Invalid argument ioctl: VIDIOC_QUERYMENU(id=134217735;index=1;name="Copyright off";reserved=88): Invalid argument invalid value for input: television valid choices for "input": "Composite 0", "Composite 1", "Composite 2", "Composite 3", "Tuner 0", "Composite 4", "S-Video 0", "S-Video 1", "S-Video 2", "S-Video 3" 1 ( 73.25 MHz): No station 2 ( 55.25 MHz): No station 3 ( 61.25 MHz): No station 4 ( 67.25 MHz): No station 5 ( 77.25 MHz): No station 6 ( 83.25 MHz): No station 7 (175.25 MHz): No station 8 (181.25 MHz): No station 9 (187.25 MHz): No station 10 (193.25 MHz): No station So it looks like I'm a step closer but no luck yet :P

What package (software) are you using when you click these controls? You want Tuner 0 as your input for that card. The only software I have used that card with is mythtv so I may not be able to help. But at least it sounds like its loading the card right. Oh, and /lib/firmware/ is the proper place for the firmware on SuSE. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

All this is in YAST (scan the channels). If I use kdetv, the screen is just blue and if I go to the channel wizard, it freezes. I think I should install ivtv from source. I'll try again tommorrow.

The version delivered by SuSE does work. Its not the latest but it does work with that card, because I am using it. The TV applications delivered with KDE are made for some pretty lame cards. BTTV, etc. go to www.mythtv.org and download that. It builds very cleanly (for once), with only a few suse specific oddities. It helps if you go to http://packman.links2linux.org/ MultiMedia section and get the latest Mplayer, Zine installed first because they have prerequisites which are also needed for myth. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
