The best way to do auto-responders would be to learn how to effectively use procmail. There is a man page on procmail under SuSE 5.3, but you may also want to do a web search on procmail, since there are a ton of good tutorials and recipes out there on the net... Whatever you do, make sure that you have a clear understanding of how procamil works, and be sure to test out your procmail recipes before implementing them. This is because, procmail can make your mail vanish if the recipes aren't implemted correctly. - --- Kim C. Yeh, procmail's neat. The mail list is at: procmail@informatik.rwth-aachen.de And you can get some pointers at Era Eriksson's procmail page at: <A HREF="http://www.iki.fi/~era/procmail/"><A HREF="http://www.iki.fi/~era/procmail/</A">http://www.iki.fi/~era/procmail/</A</A>> This second url will have info on the mini-faq etc. I think the links from Era's page combined with the online man docs make for an unbeatable one-two punch combination in getting to know procmail. -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>

If you do a search on yahoo! on procmail, you will find a few great online faqs on setting up procmail to sort out mailing lists, deal with spam mail, and a few other things. One of the best resources, as Michael points out, are the man pages. Especially procmailex. This page cuts through a lot of mystery on how to forward, deal with attachments, vacation email, lots of great stuff. Procmail for me deals with mailing lists, email generated newsletters, and does really nicely sorting things into folders. I dont subscribe to the procmail mailing list but have found the online faqs are just the "facts" that are needed for a basic understanding of procmail. -- Michael E.
