need help with sendmail log messaegs
Can someone tell me how to reconfigure sendmail so I no longer get
the following errors (as taken from /var/log/mail)?
The first error occurs for *every* email I receive. The second one
occurs for several different originators.
I have my system set up to use fetchamail to get mail from my ISP's
POP3 account. It is then delivered locally to /var/spool/mail.

Mmm, appears to be a DNS issue, try something like: echo '/map host sirius.com' | sendmail -bt Correct result is: map_lookup: host (sirius.com) returns sirius.com. (0) And if it doesn't check your DNS setup. -- Cheers, Joost

OK, I get: ADDRESS TEST MODE (ruleset 3 NOT automatically invoked) Enter <ruleset> <address> > map_lookup: host (sirius.com) sirius.com: Name server timeout no match (75) But, nslookup shows me the following: Server: ns3.texas.net Address: 207.207.0.3 Non-authoritative answer: Name: sirius.com Addresses: 205.134.253.131, 205.134.253.132 Does sendmail use a different nameserver than what I have in /etc/resolve.conf? ALSO-- how did you make it so I could read your message -- your email address was one of the ones rejected in the past! -- ____________________________________________________________________ Robert Paulsen paulsen@texas.net
I get the error too. It is always accompanied by 'lame server on sirius.com' in the syslog. I have always assumed it's something odd about the config at that site. Regards Anders On Monday 11 June 2001 22:52, Robert C. Paulsen Jr. wrote:

OK, I get:
ADDRESS TEST MODE (ruleset 3 NOT automatically invoked) Enter <ruleset> <address>
map_lookup: host (sirius.com) sirius.com: Name server timeout
no match (75)
But, nslookup shows me the following:
Server: ns3.texas.net Address: 207.207.0.3
Non-authoritative answer: Name: sirius.com Addresses: 205.134.253.131, 205.134.253.132
Does sendmail use a different nameserver than what I have in /etc/resolve.conf?
ALSO-- how did you make it so I could read your message -- your email address was one of the ones rejected in the past!

No, however it uses the authoritative answer, if not found, it errors. You can put this in your linux.mc: define(`confBIND_OPTS', `-AAONLY ')dnl or check sendmail.rc.config for an option there, not sure about that one.
ALSO-- how did you make it so I could read your message -- your email address was one of the ones rejected in the past!
Because it came straight from me probably, not from suse, like this one... -- Cheers, Joost

Actually, I guess I was wrong about one thing -- the log message doesn't mean that the message was rejected. I am getting your messages (two copies each, one directly to me and one via suse) and I am also getting messages in the log about the lookup failure. -- ____________________________________________________________________ Robert Paulsen paulsen@texas.net

That's because you guys are sending to each other and ccing the list..so
of course your going to get two copies. The one that came directly to
you and the one from the list. DUH! ;)
