[opensuse] networking problem in OpenSuse 11.1
Hi, I have 2 PCs with OpenSuse 11.1/ winxp64 dual boot on both machines. I'm not able access other system if any of pc is on Open Suse, I have tried ssh , samba both did not work. Both pcs can't even ping each other. I have BSNL broadband wich is share via a hub. Internet is running fine on both Pcs. In win networking works fine. -- Sharique uddin Ahmed Farooqui (C++/C# Developer, IT Consultant) http://safknw.blogspot.com/ "Peace" is the Ultimate thing we want. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sounds like a firewall problem, did you took a look at firewall settings in yast? I think default settings forbids even ssh. -- Michal Hrusecky Package Maintainer SUSE LINUX, s.r.o e-mail: mhrusecky@suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Michal is right: On both openSuSE boxes, go to yast -> Security & Users -> Firewall, then 'interface' and select you NIC and click 'change' set both: (1) 'Internal' and confirm that 'ssh' is an 'allowed' service' if you have a firewall running on your cable/dsl router; or (2) 'External' and confirm that 'ssh' is an 'allowed' service' if you have NO firewall running on your cable/dsl router. Of course, as root, confirm sshd is running with the command 'rcsshd status' run from the command line. If it isn't running, then issue 'rcsshd start' and 'chkconfig ssh on' to make sure it starts at boot. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
