[SLE] Can I delete parts of history in Netscape?
Hello, is there anyway to delete parts of History in Netscape. I don't want my boss seeing what I look at. I opened up History in Netscape 4.7 installed via SuSE 6.3 . I only have the option to delete the entire History, which I don't want to do. Thanks George __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? George: You may be able to select a range of urls in your history list and simply press the delete key on your keyboard. I haven't had a gui in Linux myself for 4 years now and am working only on a text console so I may be wrong about this. I only know that it works in windows. You just click on the first url, hold down the shift key and click on the last url. Then press the delete key. Tell your history to be kept for 0 days, and keep your porn urls in a file only readable by yourself. Maybe encrypt it. Mark B Withers wrote:

I want the history to show that George has been a good guy and has been visiting only work sites. There must be a file somewhere to delete only parts of the history. George

Well, the URLs for the location bar are stored in ~/.netscape/history.list, which is easy enough to edit. The actual history is stored in ~/.netscape/history.dat, which is a binary file. This means it would be a right pain to edit, but you can give it a go if you want... Do your employers not approve of you visiting Linux sites during working hours?

If he is reading your netscape history, then chances are he is reading your email too. There is a file ~/.netscape/history.dat, it is a binary file which means you are not going to be able to edit it. Just nuke the entire file and keep a backup of one that only has GOOD links in it (you know, the company website, search engines, etc.). You could even have a cron job running every ten minutes or so that automatically replaces the BAD with the GOOD. But remember, oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.

Maybe not quite true. According to the "Perl Cookbook", recipe 14.11 (O'Reilly, ISBN 1-56592-243-3) Nitscope uses the Berkeley DB format which can be read by the DB_File Perl module. Using this module you can import / read the Nutscrape history database. I haven't visited CPAN to check it out, but it may also be possible to export to a new history file, leaving the 'sensitive' information out...

Can you work with vi (Vim)? Then do $ vi ~/.netscape/history.list and delete the porn URL's. On Fri, 05 May 2000, you wrote:
