If you want to use X make sure that video chip set is supported by X86Free. As for PCMCIA network cards, I suggest buy a ne2k compatible card Linksys or D-Link. I have a GW2K 2300 solo with the Neomagic chip not supported :( Otherwise, SuSE5.2 works great on my laptop.
