Re: [SLE] Netscape 6
As I'm a newbe there is one stupid question:
from text mode go tar -zxvf ns6.tar.gz
How do I get into text mode? Pit A.

If you are in KDE there is a little black tv box with a clamshell on it. Click that. Otherwise you will find a couple of them on the system submenu. JLK -- "God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of people that these liberties are a gift of God? Thomas Jefferson - 1781
If you are in KDE there is a little black tv box with a clamshell on it. You mean something like: bash or xterm or root bash...ok got that done now I just have to install it right? So I click on the netscape-installer-bin in my /root/netscape-installer/ directory and then a installer window should pop-up right? Well I just get a Harddrive rubbling for one sec. and that's all. When I load it from xterm I get the same and if I load the netscape-installer from xterm I also get the same. What's wrong?

Hi Pit, If you got the package in your /root directory yo do this at the bash promt (terminal) i reckon you have untared/zipped the package(?): cd /root/netscape/netscape-installer/ now when you are inside the directory you do: ./netscape-installer don't forget the small dot infont of / Actually you could read all of this in the README file in the netscape-installer directory. If this doesn't work at all then perhaps your Netscape package is broken. Cheers, ei On Friday 02 February 2001 07:31, Pit Apps wrote:

You don't open a terminal and then click on a file using the file manager. IN THE TERMINAL, on the command line, you CD to the directory where the ns bin file is and you enter ./<name of file> (That's a dot-slash) JLK -- "God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of people that these liberties are a gift of God? Thomas Jefferson - 1781
