[opensuse] Re: [opensuse-xorg] Manually configure screen resolution, Dual head KDE on 11.3
Dear List, I just installed 11.3, simply to find out that there is no way to configure the X screens. Could someone please explain me why sax2 has been supressed? Is there any tool to replace it? Regards, Sampsa On Saturday 17 July 2010 12:04:15 am Felix Miata wrote:

This is conspicuously absent from the release notes. Why was announced 4 months ago on the Factory mailing list -> SaX2 has no maintainer.
Is there any tool to replace it?
The latest versions of Xorg and video drivers are supposed to cause automagic configuration on the fly on each X start for most hardware. Those for whom automagic doesn't work are left to their own devices to configure, most of which is apparently supposed to be done based upon xrandr and its cryptic man pages. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." X -configure generates a xorg.conf corresponding to automatic configuration. -dnh -- Oh, please. The Pentagon's lost entire countries. -- Col. O'Neill -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You should be able to use e.g. KDE's systemsettings to configure your display. What might be missing though is the ability to add a modeline, as described here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=189364 It seems nobody really needs that feature. Otherwise there would be more votes and comments. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No, what's really missing is some kind of persistence for this settings. The KDE systemsettings don't help me if I have to redo them every time I log in.
