According to the Suse 8.2 Personal package list ( found at http://www.suse.de/us/private/products/suse_linux/i386/packages_personal/ind... ), BlackDown is supposed to be there. But I am unable to find this package at every one of the Suse ftp sites I've tried (including ftp.suse.com!). Also, the Sun java package is nowhere to be found either. Does anyone know what the story is here? Or am I missing something somewhere? It seems kind of silly to include so many packages that require a JRE (i.e. tomcat) without including a JRE package.

If you don't mind to use another java2, you can get it from: ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.2-i386/RPMS.suse-people java2-1.4.1-65.i586.rpm Just follow the links I would say. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

The list mentions the files on the CDs
But I am unable to find this package at every one of the Suse ftp sites I've tried (including ftp.suse.com!).
Why would you expect a package from a CD to be present on ftp?
Also, the Sun java package is nowhere to be found either.
Please read Sun java license.
Does anyone know what the story is here?
Legal reasons
Or am I missing something somewhere? It seems kind of silly to include so many packages that require a JRE (i.e. tomcat) without including a JRE package.
The JRE is included on CD distribution, so I don't see any problem here. If you are installing SuSE from ftp you have to downloaded some packages from different sites for legal reasons. Regards, -Kastus

David, As others have mentioned, legal reasons prohibit the inclusion of the java, but it is made available from ftp. You can go here to get it from SuSE: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/projects/mozilla/jre Or you could visit Sun as well for a newer version built by them for Linux. That version is the new 1.4.2 and is compiled with gcc 3.x making it usable in programs like Mozilla and OpenOffice.
