I have found, to my dismay, that the GNU Fortran Compiler no longer is included as a part of the SuSE 9.3 distribution! This is sserious for me as I have a number of applications written in fortran and compiled with that compiler. Has there been a substitution?

In SuSE 9.2, g77 was on the DVDs but not on the CDs. Perhaps that is the case for 9.3. Buddy Coffey Advanced Electromagnetics

It certainly is on the DVD (it's installed on my system). I'm too lazy to check the list of packages on the Novell site to see if it's on the CDs or not...

Are you sure? I have it, and it has been upgraded: vankan@kf-pij-tg01-0852:~> ls -l `which g77` -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 91472 2005-03-19 19:36 /usr/bin/g77 pin g77 says (amongst a lot of other things): ./DVD1/suse/i586/gcc-g77-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm: Summary : GNU Fortran Compiler And I did not forget to update /var/lib/pin/ARCHIVES.gz after installing 9.3 :-) I upgraded from 9.0. Did you do a fresh install? Regards, -- Jos van Kan www.josvankan.tk

Here's what the product list shows. Development/Languages/Fortran * f2c 0.11 (A Fortran-77 to C translator) * gcc-g77 3.3.5 (GNU Fortran Compiler)
There are many substitutions but, unfortunately, I think they are all commercial products. What about downloading from www.gnu.org and installing it by hand? Never tried it, but maybe it's not so difficult. Alberto Vecchiato On Fri, 22 Apr 2005, Stephen P. Molnar, Ph.D. wrote:
