[SuSE Linux] TIFF-lib problem??
Does anyone know if there is a problem with tifflib (at any rate in SuSE-5.1)? I have a file "test1.tif" (which is a TIFF test file that came with Recognita-Plus OCR software that came with my scanner). If I try to view this file using xv, ImageMagick or the GIMP, or if I use the utility "tiffinfo" on it, then I get the following error messages: test1.tif: Warning, unknown field with tag 292 (0x124) ignored. TIFFFillStrip: test1.tif: Read error on strip 0; got 76536 bytes, expected 76537. bad data read on line 0 On the other hand, the original OCR software reads it OK, MS-Word (under WABI) imports it OK, and WordPerfect-8, StarOffice and Applixware (all Linux ports) all import it OK. I think the error messages must be coming from the libtiff library. So either: A: all the different software packages which can read it are relaxed about a fault which is present in the file, which libtiff is stringent about; or: B: the software packages which can read it are behaving correctly and the file is in fact OK, but there is something about it which libtiff cannot cope with properly when it should be able to. Can anyone say which is the case here?
