If you can get to a konsole, then run: kwin and all of your windows should go back to normal. (FYI: You can restart other individual KDE components too, like the KDE Panel. Just run 'kicker'.... I think that the panel restarts itself in newer version of KDE 3.x and up, I think. anyways, it's nice to know.) I've had this happen a number of times, but not very frequently and not much recently. I don't know what to tell you about the fixing the cause of the problem. You may try changing stuff, like your screen saver. I really haven't worried about this problem, since it doesn't happen as much as it did in KDE 2.x., and its relatively easy to restart it. Hope that helps, - Lowell Alleman

I have a SuSE 8.1 system. Twice now this week, I have awakened the system from the screensaver(simple black screen) to find all windows painted on desktop 1, and the window manager 'frame' missing from all windows. In each case, logging out of KDE and re-starting X brought back the window manager. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone know a workaround less disruptive than restarting X?
