[SLE] Kernel settings for a Cyrix
Hi everyone, I've got a Cyrix 150 at work and I can not figure out what my kernel CPU settings need to be for it to work correctly. I keep getting kernel panics during bootup, and I know that's not good. I can not even use the default SuSE kernel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Justin "All is fun and games until someone loses a kernel" :) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I use a Cyrix P150+ as my main workstation :( I compile the kernel as a 6x86 and don't have any problems (as far as I'm aware). Mind you, the panics could be a hardware problem - either a broken CPU, or maybe too hot, or possibly the mobo jumpers are set correctly... I don't get kernel panics, but I get SEGFAULTs whenever I try to major number crunching (e.g. SETI). Since it is also panicing with the default SuSE kernel, I would think it is hardware more than anything. Maybe if you could send your .config my way(offlist of course) that might clear some things up. Kernel panics, when I experience them, usually refer to the root file system. Hi, Not sure if anyone is using CVS, but I can't find any help on my problem other than RTFM replies. I have installed CVS v1.10, everything is set-up according to the manual, but when I type: CVS -d :pserver:me@myserver:/cvsmaster/ Login ...and enter the password, I get the following message: cvs[login aborted]: recv() from server myserver: Connection reset by peer This happens both from the local machine (I have even tried as root), and from Windows clients using Samba. I am pretty sure I have set up users correctly, but am not 100% sure about the passwords, as you have to do some cut'n'pasting with them. Does this error point towards a password problem? This might indicate a networking problem. Try telnet myserver 2401 and then press ^C The server should then reply with something similar to this cvs [pserver aborted]: bad auth protocol start: You might also consider adding an entry to /etc/inetd.conf if starting pserver from inetd (eg. something similar to this below, adapted from my local pserver's setup without having checked the manuals): cvspserver stream tcp nowait root /usr/bin/cvs --allow-root=/cvsmaster pserver and /etc/services (I guess this is the cause of your troubles). cvspserver 2401/tcp In case you are using a firewall, check the firewall's setup for port 2401/tcp.

Unlikely. In this case the reply would have been similar to this: cvs [login aborted]: authorization failed: server myserver rejected access Ralf -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Try telnet myserver 2401 and then press ^C
The server should then reply with something similar to this cvs [pserver aborted]: bad auth protocol start:
On the Linux box I get 'Connection closed by Foreign Host'. On the Windows Clients I get 'Connection to Host lost'. I can telnet using both if I do not specify the port 2401.
You might also consider adding an entry to /etc/inetd.conf if starting pserver from inetd (eg. something similar to this below, adapted from my local pserver's setup without having checked the manuals): cvspserver stream tcp nowait root /usr/bin/cvs --allow-root=/cvsmaster pserver
Already Done..
and /etc/services (I guess this is the cause of your troubles). cvspserver 2401/tcp
Already done..
In case you are using a firewall, check the firewall's setup for port 2401/tcp.
No firewall (yet). I guess this is something to do with a problem with PORT 2401. Any more ideas? Hi, I have narrowed down my CVS problem, to not being able to use port 2401. I think I have made a correct entry in my inetd.conf and services file, but when I try to telnet to port 2401, it connects to the server, but then returns an error message: Connection closed by foreign host Any ideas? Cheers Phil
