[opensuse] Leap KDE Baloo seems busy...
The Baloo file indexer baloo_file_extr seems rather busy. I guess it is indexing my files for the first time. I see that Baloo's index file is rather big. -rw-r--r-- 1 roger users 523448320 Oct 22 19:45 /home/roger/.local/share/baloo/index And growing. Maybe I should look in to disabling some search paths. I suggest you leave it the hell alone. ;-) It only runs long ONCE, and from then on its fast. If your development source tree is huge, that is EXACTLY why you need baloo. I use this all the time on my source tree, and its marvelous to be able to find stuff. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I doubt I will use the indexing. I have never found it a useful thing. And when the index itself gets over 1GB, it's perhaps time to index the index... Anyway, I will see if the excluded directories improve things. My laptop is not appropriate for this sort of thing. In addition to letting one select places to ignore, it would be nice if the indexing could be reset so it could start over with only the places one wants indexed. -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

So stop baloo indexing, destroy the current db and restart baloo with the configuration you desire. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
I have let it run all night. It is still going strong. The index is 1.5GB and growing. I checked what files it had open and it does not seem to actually be opening any files to index. Maybe it is in some mode with making the index. I will see what it is up to when I get home from work. As to deleting the db, of course that might work. But it need not actually work as the program might have other state information elsewhere that also needs to go away. No way of knowing. Assuming the db file is the only part of the indexing process would be an assumption. On Thu, Oct 22, 2015 at 10:41 PM, Patrick Shanahan <paka@opensuse.org> wrote:

All of the files _generated_ by baloo appear to be below ~/.local/share/baloo on my four local Tw boxes. Seems wiping them all and restarting the user's session would be akin to reinstalling, or installing on a fresh system. I don't find any *baloo* below /tmp or /var/tmp. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
