[SuSE Linux] RE: Kernel & NTFS; GLIBC
Hi, I have suse 5.2 installed and was wondering if anyone had managed to install glibc. Is there any upgrade path from 5.2 - 6.0 Also does anyone know if suse 6.0 will support partitions formatted NTFS, I know that the 2.1.3x + kernels support it, and all accounts it's stable. Suse's kernel patches only goto 2.0.9. Has anyone had any trouble compiling the 2.0.36 kernel. I did the make config and went through and sorted out want I wanted but then when it came to compiling it gave and error in the first file, something do with the char * and casting (Sorry i can't remember fully). The only thing I can think of is that egcs1.1b is messing things up( i have this compiled and installed). There is an NTFS driver out there now, you can compile it as a module, and it works. It was a little buggy in certain things like carrying permissions over. That was a few months ago, it may be better by now.

Welcome to the club of Suse users who messed their compilers up with glibc and egcs. You are not the only one this has happened to. On a humorous note, suse users have been complaining about how to use the glibc libraries, but in the Redhat groups, they are asking how the can use the older libc5 libraries to compile certain things. I plan on having a dual boot, one with suse 5 and one with suse 6, until the problems are worked out. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>
