Re: [SLE] ppp problems with WvDial
Thanks so much for your help; I discovered that I had sveral default dialers in my wvdial.conf. The fix was to delete wvdial.conf and redo the setup; it now works like a charm. However I cannot get kwvdial to work in kde1. Kinternet works great in both KDE2 and KDE1; any suggestions on getting kwvdial working? On Monday 19 March 2001 03:27, you wrote:
Which kernel are you running? Ppp setup changed with 2.4.x kernels. Check /usr/src/linux<version>/Documentation/Changes

Hi:
I get the following messages when I connect to my ISP. I get low connect speeds where as with 7.0 the connect speeds were allways high. I thought module char-major-108 had something to do with the sound but the sound works great on my box. I am running SuSE 7.1. TIA

Hi, I just installed SuSE 7.1 and when I start wvdial I get this message: r 24 06:17:24 gaia pppd[787]: pppd 2.4.0 started by root, uid 0 Mar 24 06:17:24 gaia pppd[787]: Perms of /dev/ttyS0 are ok, no 'mesg n' neccesary. Can anyone help me? Thank you Gerassimos

On my 6.1 and 7.0 machines, tty-ldisc-3 is an alias to the ppp module. What kerenl are you using (2.2.x or 2.4.x - you can find out by typing 'uname -r' at a console)? Is this a self compiled kernel or a SuSE one (I'm guessing SuSE, since you say you've just installed 7.1)? If it is a SuSE one, is the modules RPM for your kernel installed? You may also want to check your /etc/modules.conf file for the line: alias tty-ldisc-3 ppp and if it's not there, you could try putting it in - make a backup of your modules.conf file first though...
