[SuSE Linux] Rawrite.exe
Hello, I've found out from several Linux books that rawrite "will write any size file to a floppy 1.44 Mb disc. This being the case I have downloaded the 2.0.36 kernel and tried to get to to write to a floppy. I get the error message "Bad sector detected: 1" with every floppy disc that I try. Does this mean that rawrite will not copy the 7.09 Mb file to a floppy ? I would download from the internet directly on to my Linux box but it refuses to detect the modem, neither will it detect my Genius LAN card. I think some other hardware is required. Happy New Year. How can any program copy such a large file onto a 1.44 mb floppy? Unless of course it is compressed or something. But even then, a 6:1 compression is not very common for executables and kernel's. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Yes, I've been trying to understand why a Linux book saya that "any" file can be copied. This just means the file does not need to be _exactly_ 1.44 MB in size. You can also write a 800 KB file to a floppy (we need this for our rescue disk). Of course rawrite.exe cannot write a 7 MB file to a 1.44 MB floppy. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
I know that. I was trying to say that rawrite cannot write files that are larger than 1.44 MB to the floppy disk, unless it is in the 2.8 format.

I may be mistaken in this but there is no way you can put any kind of a file on any kind of a disk if it exceeds the disks capacity . I can only assume that rawrite doesn't do disk spanning either. as far as the NIC not being detected, I had a problem with a SN-3200 pci NIC that would not detect. It had the REALTEK chip on it. Once i selected NE2000 PCI compatible iI was in business. Maybe you can give that a try. ttyl J-L jlboers@usa.net On Sat, 02 Jan 1999, you wrote: - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
