Market share is one problem, The next one, is Windows allows direct hardware access (one more crash reason), and more programmers are Windows ready. If it was a 3d engine thing, Crystalspace would have taken off years ago.

You have only to look at the many times the words "nvidia" "ati" and "3D" appear on this list, to know that 3D is a problem.
