I had an 8M RAM 486DX2/50, upgraded to 32M, and it runs 1/3rd as fast as before! I took out 16M, and it runs fine. I added back 8M (total 24M) and it does not see the extra 8M. What should I do to get better performance? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! Look in your bios for a setting that resembles 'amount of memory to cache'. Your's is probably set to 8 meg, and the rest of the memory isn't being cached. It should work with 32MB at a noticable difference to 8MB. (faster). Check the BIOS setup options; I remember one That might limit mem to 16 MB. Experiment with that. Try "free", "top" to see your mem status after booting with different options. The /proc file system holds some info too for a quick view. 1/ have you addes mem=24m to lilo via yast ? 2/ does the bios/motherboard suport that much ram? 3/ are they the same type and speed or faster than whats in the box ? No one is the most likely and first I would try. At 05:20 PM 5/19/2000 -0700, j b wrote:
