Print job queued, but can't start daemon
I have suddenly developed a printing problem in SusE Linux 6.3, after nearly two years of no problems. Suddenly, when I print, I get the message "job queued, but can't start daemon". Nothing prints. Is there a cure for this malady? Lawrence Sayre

Hi, You don't mention which printing system you are using. If you are using lprold, type help under LPC you will be given all the options available. From memory if you run the 'restart' command it will restart the daemon. You may have to try some of the other commands to clear out the spools. If cups issue the following command as root to restart the daemon /etc/init.d/cups restart Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------- On Sun, 30 Sep 2001 08:42, Lawrence Sayre wrote:

Using lprold. I tried all of the available commands, and the ascii que will not clear, and the daemon (despite feedback from lpc stating 'daemon started') will not start for any of the pritner types listed. Any chance that you have changed your security levels recently, such as running the harden_suse scripts which can turn off daemons? -- Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government? DH/DSS Key - 0x7A1BEA01

No, unless someone hacked me and set this from a remote location. Lawrence Sayre --------------------------------------------- "Man's mind is his basic tool of survival!"
