Still Large Format Scanning and Printing
Hi SLEers I wrote e-mail to the mailing list about searching solution for installation and using large format plotters and scanners during Linux, but nobody answered. I don't know why. Two possible reason I can imagine: 1. Nobody received my e-mail in the mailing list. 2. Nobody use or installed plotters or large format scanners during Linux in the group. It's easy to check the first reason : I would like to ask somebody in the mailing list to reply me anything, at least I will know that I'm exist in the group. 2 or 3 replies enough, I don't need thousands of reply to my mailbox. If the second reason is the true .......... Nooooo, don't say this. I trust in the group. Csaba Bajko csbajko@elsat.hu, Csaba_Bajko@pinkfloyd.com, Csaba_Bajko@dicomgroup.com

I think it's really a rare resource. Last time I worked with big plotter was 12 years ago and it was on VM/CMS... Did you try to look at sane backends page for supported scanners? It's http://www.mostang.com/sane/sane-backends.html -Kastus

You might try doing a search at www.google.com for "plotter linux". It turned up quite a few hits for me. You might also try adding the make or model of your plotter to the search. As for scanners, the page mentioned by Kastus is probably your best bet.

Well, as said before, it's both a rare issue. I played a bit with an old ENCAD Novajet III printer / plotter at work. I "convinced" it to print in b/w mode only. I "lied" about printer type: I call it a laserjet size A0. I use it to occasionally print maps of 40 cm by 40 am (DKG5000). The printjob will always "stuck" with 3 quarters of the file printed, I use a dummy job (a dot on an envelope siize page) to "eject" the original job which gets printed to it's finish through this. As you see, it's tricky and not a thing to advice as "working". The printer uses HPGL2 commandset. I havn't seen HPGL2 in the ghostscript list odf supported printers (yet). If your printer happens to be a HP Designjet, you should think of adding Postscript capability to it, this will solve all problems.
